Solar Panel Prices – What’s The Cost To Build Or Buy A Residential Solar Panel?

I’m keen on building my own solar-powered alternative energy system in place this summer.

  1. A single solar panel with 12V electric output costs between $100-250 to buy or build. Most of these are the portable variety (which cost less) and is a good way to reduce dependence on your utility company and generate your own electricity.
A residential solar panel mounted on rooftops costs more — like the 185-watt Mitsubishi panel which costs $1020. But with states like CA, MA, IL, AZ (and a lot others) giving you tax incentives up to 30% the installation cost, the reasons for going green are becoming more and more better.

  2. Its my understanding that for the average 2 bed 3 bath house in SF Bay Area a basic turnkey roof mounted system is about $25,000. The companies do all the rebate paperwork for you.

  3. Since you sate ‘alternative energy system’ and not a hobby 5mw project…the price for solar has been pretty steady around $5.00 per watt for a long while.

  4. Check out this site. A solar grid tie system may work for you.
The cost is high and your payback is 10-20 years.
