Huge Wires Improve Solar Panel Output by 2x

I have literally doubled the total amount of solar panel output to the batteries by installing heavy, large gauge wires from the solar panels to the charge c…

  1. Hi, Mark. I followed your videos and built myself 14 panels. 12 are now? installed on my array and giving me about 14+kwatts. i will be making two more to increase it to 16 panels. Please see my array ABOUTSOLARCELLS.COMXA.COM and post any suggestion or comments.

  2. just watch? this and tell me solar isn’t our future – ABOUTSOLARCELLS.COMXA.COM

  3. Start out small, experiment and get? used to what you can do with it. Then add to it as you go. You are well on your way to energy independence and it does not cost an arm and a leg like they want you to believe. Enjoy.

  4. Thank you for your reply…I truly appreciate it…I ordered a pwm charge controller and still waiting for it to arrive…I got a battery ( marine type sealed 12v 115aps, nearly fried my eyes out ) 50 w panel and a 450 watt inverter…Recently the power company jacked had electricity price? to pay for the nuclear disaster they had caused due to their own negligence…SOBs …anyway I hope to supply my own power completely one day soon….Thank you again

  5. if you wire your panels up in series and up the voltage to your mppt CC then your smaller wire is fine and you have less loss. ? The higher the voltage the smaller the wire that is required. No need to wire in parallel and use huge wires with a MPPT CC. The CC will convert the higher voltage to the amps you require to charge the batteries.

  6. Your wire is about 14 gauge, so it will be fine. Keep it as short as possible to limit losses in the wire. The longer the wire, the more of your solar charging current you loose in the wire. If? you expand and get more solar panels, either use a separate wire for each panel or upgrade to larger wires.

I have 600 watts of solar panels and use 4 gauge wire for example. It is huge and expensive.

  7. Hi… I am living in Japan and I just got the solar bug in me…I have come upon 1.6 mm rated for 600volts…( I apologize to you and anyone who knows about electronics because I am totally in the dark in that regard…also being in Japan it is even harder to make sense of stuff) I have a 50w panel and wish to know if I can use the wire instead of buying the PCV or PCV wire for it….Also any advice would be appreciated…i have watched and read info about? stand alone systems… PLS if you can..

  8. Yes, I agree.? Thank you. I want a mppt controller, but they are so expensive. It will take some time before I can afford one.

  9. I think you will like the xnatrex C40 charge controller it is a beast. do not exceed 125v dc?

  10. I run my solar panels at 150v dc to help keep current down and wire size small at 10 Gage mtw wire my 300 watt panel set up only draws 2 amps and? charges 48v battery bank at 8.5A optimum. You will see a huge improvement if you get a mppt charge controller that can take the higher voltage and use your larger wires. its all about pressure and resistance with the size wires you have you should be capable of 20A with very little loss. pm me I have something that could help you out.

  11. The biggest wire that you can afford? is always the best. Especially if you plan to install a larger solar panel array. The higher the current output, the higher the losses in the wires. So bigger wire is better.

  12. in your opinion would useing 2 or 0 gage wire be over kill?….i was just going to buy a big roll of it… an buy? some battery terminal things an crimp them on the ends of the wire…kinda like automotive to altanator wire..

  13. The wires from the solar panels to the RV are 8 guage, but the inside wires are? only 10.

  14. I ran huge wires even through the control circuits as far? as I could Made a huge difference.

  15. I think its 8. I found some nice power? line wires laying in the woods. Got lucky. They are nice fat wires. It doubled my total power to the trailer.

I also used some 120 V campsite plug in cables that came with my camper to wire up the inside. Cut off the ends and you have some thick wires. I removed all the 120 V junk so I had that left over.

  16. I know what you mean, lol. After I added? the larger cable to the batteries, it rained or I was gone during daylight hours for the next two weeks. Arrgh.

  17. ive just rewired some panels,,as i finished? the sun went in and began to rain…typical eh.
