  3. Silicon in every hole….with a head light during the night….that’s ridiculous!!! Never fits in this way…your wooden play get sucked with water over the years…it will leak and the damage cost you much more, as it cost to hire a good roofer…believe? me, I’m a roofer from Germany with 20+ years of experience. It’s not so easy as it seams 😉

  4. James, you wire all the high voltage wiring before any high voltages (from the solar panels) are on the wires. The last connection you make is a simple and safe clip/locking connection to the solar array.
    As for the grid-tie inverter, you must install a disconnect switch and a circuit breaker.? You should never wire directly to an outlet. That would bypass all circuit protection.

  5. What do you mean by connecting the high voltage electrical connection first before connecting to the solar panel? Did you mean to connect your AC outlet first then to the? solar panel? Your help would be helpful?
    Another question: Did you connect the Sunnyboy grid tie inverter to the socket outlet or through the 240 volt house curicuit breaker?

  9. Forgot if I commented earlier. Great professional job on the install. Ever consider keeping small system? batt/off grid system to in case of grid failure? I know it unlikely but family in NJ pretty bummed during Sandy

  10. Thanks, i supose that you start wiring from top house downwards? (leaving mc4 connectors ready on roof) and finally just plug the mc4 you leaved on the roof before to the hot MC4 ones from the PV array. lol finally i got it (im preparing myself to do a 3kw solar array on my own).   11. Labor is by far the highest cost. With solar panels costing less than 70 cents per watt, almost anyone can afford them. ?
    For some reason, the solar companies still charge $2-$6 per watt for installation alone. I thought that was highway robbery so I opted to install them myself. Do you homework, follow local building codes, get a permit, do it right and you can’t go wrong.

  13. You put silicon caulk into? every hole your drill. It does great at sealing things up. Silicon will outlast the shingles on a roof.

  14. How did you prevent the holes you drilled in your roof for the rails from leaking water when it rains? I think over time it? would leak would it not?

  15. Excuse me but how did you handle those 400V or more coming down from the roof? did you just bring the wires down? and peled them just before connectiong?

I like seeing videos like this, but keep in mind us solar installers, can hardly stay up to speed on all the codes and rules to install solar and? electrical these days, this may look simple in the eyes of you tube land, realize 99% of the videos on solar are jacked up, even my first 5 installs I look at and think wow, I had a pro helping me on my first installs also.

  25. Total costs for panels, racking and inverter, permits and everything was? under $22,000.
    State and Federal rebates brought my out-of pocket costs to about $11,000. I missed out on 2 other rebates offered by the state and utility that could have reduced the out of pocket costs another $9500. Oh well.
