My family and I will be moving into a loft in January. We will be on the top level and will have two sections of three overhead windows. The windows are at a 45-degree angle and facing north. If I place a solar panel at the same angle and facing the same direction as the windows, will I be able to harness enough energy from the sun? Or should I find another location for a solar panel, such as the south facing windows (perpendicular to the ground)? If you need more information, just let me know.

It would not produce as much as it would facing south. Whether directly or indirectly, south facing panels will get you the most out of the daily sunshine.
Then there is the size question. More surface area exposed to the sun will give you more wattage in the end.
Reputable solar panel dealers should be able to give you their optimum recommendation and estimates.

Are you in the northern or southern hemisphere?
If you’re in the northern hemisphere, then you will want to place them on a south facing roof. It can increase output by 100%+.
as long as light hits it it will generate electricity but the north facing will decrease the amount of electricity generated

If you don’t have SE, S or SW exposure solar is not a viable option. As long as you are in the northern hemisphere.
